Why can't I escape?

We have opened all the safes, my partner has passed the loot to me, and the Escape button becomes available when I move to the 3rd floor stairs, but when I click on it it tells me "You must open all the safes and get all the loots before you escape (especially the Persian Kitty)" (there is no Persian Kitty in our game).
