Why wasn't time added to turn-based games that were malfunctioning last night?

Post by FrankJones »

I had a few games that would not load last night. I understand it was a site-wide problem. I expected time would be added; instead, I woke up and saw one game about to forfeit on time. I did not want to waste a vacation joker but apparently, I should have.

Shouldn't time be added in a situation like that?

I've never seen (or noticed) time added to turn-based games. They simply neutralize any penalties that occurred during a site disruption, i.e., one that they recognize as being an issue on their end.

But that mostly deals with the effect on real-time games. That policy fails to recognize that even if you didn't time out of a turn-based game during the disruption, the loss of time not being able to play may lead you to time out after the disruption. So maybe they should add time for turn-based games as well after a site disruption.

Exactly. And, "restoring a penalty" mean, I assume, the Karma penalty. There's still the loss of 40 Elo I nearly incurred. (It's my 20th game, so my K-factor is still 40).
