Unable to overcome gurdian by exliing bear trap

Hey, this was my first time playing it, but I wasn't able to overcome an unoccupied gaurdian by exiling a bear trap, I simply couldn't find the option to do so, even though according to BGG it should work, if possible could someone tell why it didn't work, or whether I just missed some UI option?

"Exile this card" means "play it from your hand as an action and exile it", not "the card does this when it is exiled by some other means".

You played Grappling Hook, discarded Bear Trap, then exiled Bear Trap as part of the Grappling Hook ability. This is a legal move, but if you expected the Bear Trap ability to activate in this case, you are incorrect.

Basically,if you want to use a card's ability,just click on that card .[Ok,in a couple of cases,it may have multiple modes of operation,so then you'll have to choose between them].
