expert mode question

Post by Ilargixuri »

Hello everyone !

I really like this game, I'm having fun with all the different character abilities. I've recently started to play in expert mode and I was wondering if more experienced players had the feeling that being first or second to play was an advantage? Does the order of players impact the game at all in your opinion ?

Also, what characters do you like to banish when playing first?

Hey! I kinda have this feeling but maybe more in normal mode, because bans prevents a bit of the synergies of the second player, and you can directly choose the character who suits you the most as a first player, as everybody is available. I need to play expert mode more to find it out.

If I know I'll play second, I'm usually banning something I don't care, like the Némesis, as I will have the opportunity to select 2 characters at once, I prefer having the largest choice. Then for the second ban I'll adapt myself to the other, depending the synergies he's making, and what counter could annoys me.
If I play first, well, here, in BGA, there is a mistake about rules. Normally, first player should ban first, then second. Here it's the opposite, but I find it good, cause it's an advantage banning second and balance a bit more playing first.
So, I will react accordingly. Like, if he bans the jailer or the protector, I'll ban the other one and take the bruiser, as he's powerful and they're his counter. Or I'll ban the Vizir/Guard to avoid this strong combo, or Guard/Acrobat, or Brewmaster/Grappler-Illusionist.
And there is my only problem with this mode, I'm afraid we'll ban the same characters again and again. Anyway, it's more balanced this way.

Idk if it helps, we should make a post with the good synergies and how to counter them.

Oh, and I forget, playing first means recruiting last ! Which is a pretty nice advantage, because you're sure the opponent will not take the counter !

For me the big advantage of being the second player is in "normal" mode. And it is trully a BIG one espacially when, as first player, you're not happy with the first 3 revealed cards. In the expert one I do not feel a significant negative impact being first.

And I'm used to ban cards that can disavantage the characters that I loved to play. I think it's preferable to ban "strong" characters / powers that will certainly benefits to your opponent thant to ban "weak" characters.

Now I agree not banning weak characters. I mean, I prefer to let them and hope my opponent takes them instead hehe

Actually, this is the official rule now, it was a mistake in the first print of the game
