Why is Arena with base game only?

From what I've experienced, this is the default across all the games I play on here. I believe it more widely applies to the competitive scene for a given game, where typically the main tournaments (especially face to face) use the base game only.

I think expansions are more for fans, collectors and casual gamers. A shame though, as some games (definitely not all) probably do benefit from the expansions.

Arena format is decided by voting. 2 seasons ago, Arena was played with pantheon expansion. If you look at the games played there were much less than a vanilla season. I think it is right that Arena is played in the most played mode. Maybe an Arena with all the expansions present could be included but it must be in addition to the standard one because the expansions (especially Agora) completely change the game.

Couldn't disagree more with Oxmeister. Imho expansions is on the contrary for people who want a deeper and balanced game.
