An interesting thought: the more this gets abused, the more people will probably know it is getting abused. Then, wouldn't it be the case that the other player would simply not accept the offer to abandon?

Abandon request should be an exception, not almost a norm.
We should lobby BGA to add a penalty when you have to many abandon in your last games (like 3 abandon in your 10 last games or something)
Because not only it is points abusing, but it worsen the experience for all nice players who accept and lose some valuable time (and gain frustration from having thinking about starting hand for nothing )

As someone who always offers abandon if my opponent is much lower rated than me (as from my experience this results in one-sided and unfun games for both sides), I do agree with the general sentiment that abandons should be the exception. Abandoning 20% of your games seems a bit sus, not gonna lie. But amongst the many flaws of the BGA ecosystem, this is probably one of the smaller ones, so we just gotta accept it and move on.

Abandoning is fine I think.

Yes it can be abused and there should be an option to abandon before any game information is revealed.

But I can understand if players want to abandon because matchmaking isn't ideal. If you're >600 ELO you still get 200 ELO constantly despite putting matchmaking restricted and those games are often just not fun plus timeconsuming.

Any game where you can select matches to some degree has the potential for abuse. This happens in any sport. It's just part of it and can't be avoided completely because you don't want to force players to play when it's not fun.
