I may be misunderstanding a rule

So just finished a round, and I cleared up a rockfall. 2 coins since that was the only one visible. Later on I cleared another rockfall and again 2 coins. Shouldn't I have gotten 4 coins since the discard pile is visible? In the rules it states "IMPORTANT: tiles won by the players, as well as those discarded during play of the game, must be visible to all players during the game." When destroying a rockfall it is discarded, so shouldn't this count as it still being visible?

I believe it's the rockfalls visible on excavation sites that are taken into account. Not those discarded in previous rounds.
