Take a chill pill. 51st State is a game from 2010, the Master Set is from 2016. The designers are European, and neither Canada nor the US are the center of the universe.

If seeing the title of a GAME on BGA is tough for you, well real life is going to be REAL tough for you.

Also: the game is set in the Neuroshima world (the Neuroshima rpg was released in 2003), you can read more about the setting here

Oh gosh, finally the voice of reason. Thank you for your post. Me neither understand how old game could offence someone, but we're leaving in the world where literally everything could hurt someone feelings.

P.S. I'm from Belarus, but if anyone thinks it's russian "state" it only shows how dumb this person is. I know my history, language and culture, so old stupid politicals will not change my mind about this.

Adding another voice as a Canadian who's not pleased with this one. Given what the phrase means right now, this wasn't a fun way to open the site.

Canada's largest trading partner, and largest ally, whom we share a large continent with has essentially declared an economic attack on us with the hope of annexation. We were the first (along with Mexico) to get Tarriffed by the current administration. We were repeatedly insulted as a country by the US.

Canadians have basically boycotted the US currently. Tourism from Canada to the US is down 70%. Canadian residents who live 6 months out of the year in Florida are selling their 2nd homes there. The currently liberal party had a 1% chance of winning the next election before Trump took office. Last week we elected the Liberal party because Trump's attacks on our country are very real. It may mean nothing to you in Belarus, or Norway (as the other user commented). But it means something to us. You can't just brush something away like the strongest country in the world wanting to Annex you, and say "people are too sensitive". That in of itself is pretty insulting.

Next you'll say Catholics are too sensitive about Trump posting a picture of him as the next Pope.

As a Canadian I find it hard to believe that people are actually getting offended by this, I actually thought it was pretty funny.

Catholic with ties to Canada and Canadians here, often told I'm very "woke," PC, culturally sensitive, etc.

Yes, depending on how they respond, some Catholics are being too sensitive about Trump posting a picture of him as the next pope. Same for Canadians being too sensitive about his words on Canada being the 51st state, let alone a board game release.

There's a difference between being offended and sensitive. Trump is offensive in both cases, and people should rightly be offended. BGA here is not. They're not remotely close to the same, and it wasn't offensive when Pandemic released either.

That said, how one responds to these types of things in oversensitivity can give Trump more credence than he deserves. Yes, he's the president. Yes, he's doing frightening and abhorrent things. That doesn't mean anyone should give credence to his claims of thinking of annexing Canada and Greenland.

Mock and chide him. Ridicule him as he deserves. But don't let it get to you to the point you take him TOO seriously and too severely, whether on the 51st state nonsense, the pope malarkey, or if he or his ilk weigh in here. Denounce them and nip their attempts at clout in the bud.

Getting offended at a similar name of a board game release to something that happens to be a term in politics today by coincidence? That is giving too much credence. That is playing into the narrative and chilling effect they want, giving more power than they actually have, rather than clapping back and not letting it get to you excessively.

Everyday is a great day to release any boardgame on BGA! As always, thanks BGA!

Happy Mental Health Awareness Month!

If you're truly hurt by the title of a board game that was published 15 years ago in a completely different context, please seek a counselor/talk to someone/take some time to meditate/etc... Don't make yourself a slave to mere words and phrases, especially ones that don't even mean what you're associating them with.

"Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me", and all that jazz.
