I don't really know how Ignacy (my ex-boss) got convinced to let this game be published here

51st State: Rebuild, Reshape, Reclaim
Re: 51st State: Rebuild, Reshape, Reclaim
Stop sending tulips to Canada then. The US is the centre of the world right now and people like are you are exactly like why many Americans voted for Trump (among others reasons we don't need to discuss in this thread). If that's the kind of understanding you get from this thread, you need to enlighten yourself. The comments do make sense, you're just used to thinking in extremes - it's either my way or the highway. This could have been a quiet release or a post with some context (like a link to that National Post article), instead it was put out in a way that sounds antagonistic. It doesn't matter when the game was created, right now is what matters. Right now the climate is what it is and a deliberate choice to go ahead with this like BGA did is tone deaf.mspider_89 wrote: ↑05 May 2025, 21:30Why?SnugglyWinnie wrote: ↑05 May 2025, 19:07Definitely reads as a political statement, and makes me wonder...
I mean I can go very long on how I think Trump as a president is one of the worst ideas ever made real.
But I can also do the same for this and a lot of comments in this thread on how they don't make sense. An announcement creates a problem because USA and Canada think they are the center of the world and that makes them think that everything runs around them?![]()
Most of us just don't like the timing; it feels like it was deliberate. People are allowed to have emotions about this and they are also allowed to post in the news here about it. It's not just about you and your opinion; if you didn't think so, you wouldn't have been offended enough to comment. Like someone else said earlier, this is a huge 'oof' moment. Would a delay have hurt them much if at all?
It's a shame for the developer since it is unrelated (albeit an odd choice of a name anyway considering the game's context), but when you pick a company over a nation that says a lot about you than us.

Holy Flanders
Seriously? Folks are tone-deaf.
I get it, it was firstly released in 2010/2016 but releasing now in BGA and keeping the original title can be seen as a poor taste.

I agree with what you are saying, but then BGA should have made a statement with the release and addressed it head on. Not saying a word makes it look bad.HaggbartSlark wrote: ↑05 May 2025, 19:33That is not how online game development works.Stick wrote: ↑05 May 2025, 19:18 I don't really think this is offensive, or whatever, but it *does* feel like someone's taking the piss. Just picking a game with that name right now, either they don't know or they think they're being funny. It's not the end of the world, but it's just one of those "oof" moments.
They didn't pick a game "right now".
The game has been in development a long time - possibly months/years before it went in Alpha testing on BGA in October 2024. It went in open Beta in January 2025, the expansion went in Beta in the start of March 2025. Fans of the game have been looking forward to a stable and bug free full release.
The actual release date is the end of a long development and testing pipeline. This Trump rhetorical nonsense can possibly continue for years, it's completely and literally insane to demand a very popular game that has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with the current political situation/climate beyond the coincidental name to be stopped/pulled/delayed because of hurt feelings because of what may (but 99,9% certainly won't) happen sometimes in the future.
Re: 51st State: Rebuild, Reshape, Reclaim
I agree that clarifying that this is an older game that has been in development for a while would have been better, because not everybody knew of the game beforehand and not everybody knows how long it takes to implement games here.
And yes, it could always be worse. It could be this game from the 80s: https://boardgamegeek.com/image/1175306/trump-the-game

Maybe not the best time to highlight this one...

As a Canadian, it feels really insensitive to release this game right now during the current political climate.
I don't know anything about this game other than the title.
And the moment I saw it, it put a sour taste in my mouth.
Not sure what the BGA folks were thinking with this out-of-the-blue release.
At least preface it with some sort of message indicating that you are sympathetic to what is going on in the world.
