Licensing clarification

Post by Speusippus »

Over on Studio (edit to clarify: "Studio" refers to a website associated with BoardGameArena, not a different platform) this game is listed as not only not being licensed yet, but it has the big red "NO" circle indicating they had a reason to think they never would get a license. But of course, here the game is! There are several other games that exist here taht are stated as having no license yet over there. My assumption is taht the licensing information is just out of date, right? Or is there something more complicated going on?

I am not sure, but, I think some designers grant licenses for some websites but not others.

Wingspan, for example, apparently does not have a license here for expansions, and I have been told it never will, even though on another platform, it has the expansions.

I really hope we get expansions for both Wingspan and Scythe here (Both by the same company, Stonemaier games).

the publisher of a game can grant a lisence to one website and not another. Just like Disney can lisence their IP to a toy manufacturer, but not a competing manufacturer.

Oh, just to clarify, "studio" refers to the BGA website for designers and assistants thereunto, so when it says no license, it's saying no license for BGA.

That list is not meant to be a list of all possible licenses available to BGA, only the ones that are open for the community of developpers. For the developpement of popular titles that involves freelance work, the title is usually not added to the list to avoid having another dev starting to work on something that is already worked on.
