Live game: mutual pause

Post by 87ii »

Hello. I think a nice idea may be to add a mutual pause option for live games. I’ve found a few times when playing a game something unexpected comes up for a few minutes. This can ruin games and usually I find the other player does not mind, but it’s actually the system that makes it a big deal.

What I would suggest:
A request to pause the game for a set amount of time, 5 mins to 1 hour maximum let’s say.
Then if everyone agrees to the time and pause, it covers the game with a pause screen and a global countdown.
In the case where everyone would like to resume early; they can just hit a ready button.

And after the pause the game resumes as normal, I’m not sure how this would translate to 4 player+ games. But for the 2 player games I play, I think this would be a great addition.

Thanks :D

Interesting idea. You have to actually formally submit a suggestion if you actually want someone who can do something about it to look at it (as it says in the Read This First thread at the top of this forum).

A less sophisticated version of this already exists. During a real-time game you can propose to convert it to turn-based game. Everyone has to agree, but that would give you time (definitely more than an hour) to do whatever and resume. Just because it's now "turn-based" doesn't stop you from playing as fast as you want (some people weirdly think this is the case). This of course only works if 1) you can communicate in a language all other players understand that you want to resume at a specific time and 2) you can believe they will actually come back at that time. If they don't come back, then you'll be stuck in a turn-based game for however long that takes to finish.
