Request: Option to turn off Adrenaline

Post by BlackTie »

I think without Adrenaline, the game would have the perfect balance of skill and luck. It would make the competition more fierce and interesting here on BGA. Can we get this option please?

You won't get it for different reasons (the developer is unlikely to allow it), but it's not a good idea. No adrenaline will lead to way more non-races, you get screwed with your opening hand, you've lost with no way back, on turn 1, in fact on some tracks under certain conditions you will have pretty much lost before the race begins purely because you started at the back of the grid. It's a total misnomer to say adrenaline is making games more lucky, it's making them less lucky in reality, because it protects against losing because you got totally done over in your draw.

Why would a bad starting hand mean that you can never catch up? Your opponents can get a bad draw at any time throughout the game, and you can get good ones throughout the game. There is no snowball effect in this game, so I don't see how an early lead would affect anyone's ability to catch up through skill.

There is a snowball effect because if you get cut adrift at the back because your starting hand is terrible you aren't getting slipstreams, and will have no hope of catching up a pack where everyone is slipstreaming each other. It can already be difficult enough on some tracks to catch up from this, eg. France and Japan, with no adrenaline it will come a whole lot worse on a lot more tracks, because you will have to spend more resources than those at the front to try and catch up, and with no adrenaline will just go through your resources faster than them. Take a track like Mexico, if you get a terrible starting hand which doesn't allow you to clear the chicane turn 2 you're in trouble, but the majority of time unless the setup is super easy you will have an opportunity to catch back up, without adrenaline, you pretty much lose on the spot, because you will just spend all your resources trying to catch back up.

This is a fair point. So the conclusion is that we should have the option to turn off Andrenaline AND Slipstream.

While we're at it, lets turn off Cool Downs, Gas Pedals, and super coolant!
