Discussing your cards

Is it allowed to discuss your cards and/or work together (as in, discuss what one another the best option, in order for your mutual benefit)?

I ask because I was playing a game where I had made a mistake and needed to win twice with three wizards. The last wizard hadn’t been played yet, so I said to the person who I thought had the final wizard, and who needed one final win, that they should play it now if they did have it (because otherwise I would win all of the tricks, and we would both lose points). When I did this, another person in the game got really mad at me for cheating. I cannot fathom how this would possibly be cheating, but I suppose I have to ask, for certainty’s sake, *is* this cheating?

I‘d not be amused either, the game is „all-vs-all“, not „2-vs-1 or 2“. Not sure, but revealing cards actually even could be against the rules, it would be in many card games.

But then one could say ofc, that you also could have lied, so all fair and blabla, though why would you in such a situation.

Also, as every multiplayer game without clear teams, it always is everyones choice who to target, which doesn‘t always happen objectively, one also has to secure their own bid, and playing against the player before is much easier than against the one after. Then it also is pretty common that everyone gangbangs on the leader, or that 3rd goes vs 2nd or 4th because 1st and / or 2nd are out of reach (the hearts forum is full of hate against this practice, but it happens all the time in my RL Wizard games, and I don‘t see why it shouldn‘t). Still, I‘d say, that all should happen without revealing cards/ planning out trick allocation, as otherwise it steps over the line of what I‘d find acceptable.

Everyone draws that line elsewhere ofc, so cheating or not, you certainly get some red thumbs for such (which is also the only possible punishment for kingmaking on BGA), and I‘d say fairly so, probably.

Especially with the „+-1 bids to total cards“ rule, where one player has to fail. If you, without that rule but with friends/likeminded, want to make it a collaborative game with everyone succeeding always, go for it, but better not with ELO on / a competitive setting.

I would also not be happy with that play.

You're colluding and creating a kingmaker situation. I would personally report it (and red thumb).

Having said that, I know there is a breed of gamers that thinks every game should be a potential collusion/social manipulation/lie if necessary/etc. ordeal, and they find that fun.

But that definitely changes the spirit of the game (unless that type of behavior is explicitly in the rules: like Game of Thrones for example, where you're told to try to influence each other, make deals, lie, break deals, etc.).

I have the physical card game, and we have never EVER played that way around the table.

I'd red thumb by best friend and throw them out of my house if they played that way lol!!
