I hate how bugs, requests, and suggetions are just ignored by the developrs of this game.

For example, if you look at this report

https://boardgamearena.com/bug?id=43499

about getting an easier way to reorganize cards when using the "Forecast' event" card, it's been ignored for 4 years, even though it's a pretty simple request and change to UI.

To be honest, it seem extremely common for BGA developers to ignore and abandon games after they have been released even if they continue to have bugs or UI issues. Which just continues my love/hate relationship with BGA.

Officially releasing the game on BGA requires the publisher's approval.
In other words, the publisher decided releasing the game even though there are some bugs.
Also, individual developers do not have any obligations to maintain the game forever.
As Lunalol already said, you have to either find someone else to do it for you or do it yourself.

Or, become a premium member for a bargain price of $3 a month, which will help the site have more resources to make changes.
How do non premium members make annoyed posts complaining about how little they think the developers are doing?

From what I understand, most of the developers are working as volunteers. They have a lot of people (including myself) asking for a lot of changes.

ufm is the developer for a lot of games here. That probably takes a lot of time and effort. A more appreciative and polite tone with less angst would probably be more likely to get a favorable response.

Most of the games here seem to have a single developer, which means the developers here need to budget their time carefully.

It takes me very little time to drag and drop to rearrange 6 cards when using forecast. For me, a much bigger problem is the map is too small and cluttered, making the city names not match up with where they actually are, sometimes causing an error thinking I am moving to a city for a card I possess when actually I end up in the wrong city.

For the $36 I pay, I am very happy with the quality of the site. Would I change some things? Sure. But, they're not asking $100 for a premium membership.

And, non-members can get a lot of game play and features for zero dollars. That's a great deal!

I'm not taking sides here; just trying to present both sides of the equation and be helpful. Please don't anyone get mad at me.

I was a Premium Member for a whole year before deciding not to renew due to lack of good customer service from BGA.

Sounds like a pretty big UI issue that a responsible developer would try to fix as soon as possible. I don't understand the members who carry water for BGA depite the lack of good customer service (BGA doesn't even have an email you can contact), the bugs and UI problems, the server problems that disconnect you from games. It's like some players don't want to hold BGA accountable at all.

We can all relate to the gripes. But your view of BGA and how it operates is completely wrong. It's not a money making cash cow with no heart.

Largely the games being developed are by volunteers. Please just take the time to think about that.

BGA do not run the site as a pay to play. They are not holding their hand out. The premium decision lies with the games publishers. You are paying to help support the site. Take that idea as you like.

I do think this post is fair. I support BGA with the premium membership because, as I noted, many of the people who make the site run are working for low wages or on a volunteer basis. They have almost all my favorite games, with zero or minimal bugs. They have excellent matchmaking options. They keep full statistics, and a fully archived game history so I can review, move-by-move, and of my games AND any games by opponents, from any player's vantage point. That's a tremendous valuable feature to help people improve their gameplay. And for $36 a year, I think it's one of the best values out there.

There are a lot of people who play a lot of games daily on BGA. Yes, I wish they had a customer service we could contact. But I can understand why they do not. They would be deluged by people complaining about being moderated, or minor bugs, or server issues, etc. Instead, they use forums with volunteer moderators. The system mostly works. Yes, I wish there was more transparency with regard to moderation, and I think that portion of this website is handled poorly.

But you make it sound as though many games are bug-plagued. That is not the case. If a game is removed from Beta, it means there are no significant outstanding bugs. And when a game that is out of Beta receives a bug report, most of the time, it is quickly dealt with. There is a very popular gaming service that charges $8 to $20 PER GAME PURCHASED, and yet their bugs go unresolved for literally years. So, yes, I am supportive of this website, especially compared to that miserable alternative that I and many others suffered with for years.

As for your saying that my mentioned UI issue is a big issue that any reasonable developer should fix - I posted a forum post about it months ago, and exactly zero people replied or supported my request. So, apparently I'm the only one with that issue.

Servers crash sometimes. To ensure the swervers never have issues, they would need to charge a lot more than $36, and they would need everyone to pay, which a lot of people do not. A lot of people pay Zero dollars. I don't have a lot of sympathy for people who are paying ZERO dollars and complain about the bad service they are receiving, then demand that a developer fix a cosmetic UI issue.

If you don't think you are getting your $0.00 worth, I don't know what to tell you.

When I first joined BGA there was roughly 1/5 the content it has now and even then the price of less than one physical game per year was worth it. Now there's so much content I wouldn't even have time to play everything on here in a year.

The reason some of us "carry water" for BGA is that we don't have some over the top sense of entitlement of what we should expect for 10 cents per day. The way people behave, you'd think this was a $200/month cable subscription. And that's the people who are even paying anything.

Exactly.

(You were responding to the person who made the "carry water" comment, not to me, right? You and I are in agreement.)

Set your expectations low when you aren't paying much or anything. People get entitled that things will work properly, but apparently it's ok to settle as long as they aren't charging too much. Volunteers shouldn't be held to a high standard. You get what you pay for, so since you're paying nothing or a dime a day shut up and take it.
