Victory prevented by "Focus on Infrastructure"?!

Post by laddiator »

I reached Drawdown (solo game) and survived Crisis, but the game says "Victory prevented by "Focus on Infrastructure"? What is that about? There's nothing in the BGA rules about this. The rules just says survive the Crisis Stage and you win.

You activated the challenge cards, which gives you more constraints.

Not quite helpful as it's still not clear where the challenge card is on the board and its purpose.

But I found it. if you see a pink card on your board below where the emissions icons are (car, house, factory , etc) click that pink card to read more conditions about your game. In this case, I needed 3 more infrastructure than bands on the thermostat.

This is not intuitive and not covered in the BGA rules summary.

That's a user wiki that you can edit yourself if you wish, but it's not reasonable to expect the summary to cover every individual challenge card (there are a lot). It's also expected that only experienced players will take challenge cards and that they'll look at the cards they choose to take.

Point taken. Edit made (if you have challenge cards active, additional win conditions may be required). My point is that the inexperienced explorer on BGA may not know what challenge cards are but turn them on or enter a game not knowing that option is on. So then, they may not know to even look for them, where to find them on the game board, and understand their purpose.

Thanks for the tips and help understanding more about the game, and I'm contributing to the wiki to help others

Thanks for editing the wiki. Every bit helps.

For this exact reason I have a flag in place that warns beginners about the option if it's enabled on a game they're creating/joining. It's not intended to be a beginner option and BGA's infrastructure supports this sort of warning.

Beyond that, there's only so much you can do. If a beginner wants to flip on random options without reading the rules, you can't stop them. If they join a table where it's on, but then refuse to discuss what's happening (very ironic for a cooperative game), that's on them, too.

There's only so much hand holding we can do. We already go out of our way to log the exact card that's preventing the game from ending.
