Hi. I've recently tried this game and I like it for it's speed and simplicity, while still retaining it's tactical part.
One thing I would be interested to hear your opinion on is a first move advantage (I'm talking 2 player game here). And I think most would agree, that going first does give you an advantage of some sorts, so question is: how big is it really? Is it 60-40, 51-49 or 50.01-49.99 (or maybe some would say, that it's a second player, who is better for some reason)?
So, there's another way of looking at it. Suppose, you are starting the last round of the game. A deficit of 1 point means nothing, because ties are not possible and even a win of 1 point wins the game. That means, that a player, who is behind, does have an advantage of going first with no added disadvantages. A deficit of 2 theoretically allows a player ahead to defend with a 1 point loss, but the chances of that outcome are really low, probably still going first is better.
Here is a hypothetical question then. If you are bidding a point deficit for going first in the last round (before seeing the cards of course), what would your bid be? I'm not good at the game, my gut feeling answer is something like 6 points, I wonder what you think.
And a related question to strong players, do you ever play strategically in a penultimate round, something like losing more or winning less to land on -1 instead of +1?
