And that is a problem. BGA don't need karma system at all if players could concede. Most of players quit because they forced to play a game that has already been lost.

Frankly it's better that than a player who wastes all of their time just doing nothing and has to manually be kicked out instead of leaving themselves.
Except it voids the game at multi-player games, so you can play for an hour, get to the last turn then someone who knows they can't win quits, and that's it you've wasted an hour for nothing.

I argued some time ago the karma penalty for quitting should be harsher, it also likely should ratchet up more the further into the game you do it, because it is very silly that someone can quit a game, then hop straight back in the Arena queue like nothing has happened.

I realise it's game dependent, but back when this mattered at Heat, 80% of people quit in the last 1-2 turns of the game, so we're talking a couple of minutes here.

You would still need the karma system regardless, because some players don't even seem interested in completing games, they quit virtually every game they play, nobody wants to play those players, and the karma system makes it easy to avoid them.

Would appreciate the thumbs up on these for anyone who agrees. I am delusionally hoping that with enough attention to the issue, we can have an improved game experience where we worry less about games ending prematurely.
How do I downvote these suggestions ? ( I don't support quitting games, but the penalties as is to punish players for issues such as BGA webpage lagging)

BGA does support conceding, and you are not penalised for doing so. You do need to have met the 50% mark for the game to do so, and this isn't always coded reliably, as the progress depends on what the dev has set. But mostly when I've heard about devs being lazy about it, they basically set it to 50% after the first move, so that allows conceding sooner rather than not at all. If you've lost the game, you can concede, players don't need to quit to get out of a game they are losing.

You don't vote for them.

If there is a site-wide issue, BGA state they reverse penalties accrued in that time. Anecdotally, I've heard that maybe that doesn't always happen, but it's not always clear if there was an official issue, or if a player just had a bad experience and attributed to a BGA site-wide issue. But that's a separate issue and doesn't mean that there shouldn't be penalties for quitting. Otherwise you're really saying that you're happy to penalise the person who tried to play a game in good faith, and had their opponent just wander off somewhere in the middle (sometimes with good reason, but sometimes for no reason at all). That's pretty frustrating too.

It's an ongoing problem. Players waiting in queue miss games starting on a regular basis because of lag issues on BGA.
I don't think anyone gets into queue only to quit before a game starts.

I can't be sure, but I assume there may also be people who queue for a game, then go make a coffee while they're waiting, or browse over on another site, expecting some kind of significant notification when the game is ready. As I think I've said, when I am queueing for RT (only occasionally), I put the BGA link in a separate window and make sure that window is visible on one half (or less) of my screen, while I continue browsing in another window, and if I have to leave the computer for any reason, I stop queueing.

If I'm queueing on a mobile device where I can't really use a separate window, then I stay on that window - particularly with a mobile device, I wouldn't be surprised if the notifications aren't reliable that a game is ready for you. If I feel like queueing is taking too long, I choose a different game, or go find something else to do. I have had the odd table glitch where I've found myself in a table that I didn't realise had started, usually because the website had a glitch while queueing, but since I know I'm waiting for a table, I see the glitch happen and then know to refresh to website to make sure of whether I might now be in a table (and am usually able to get back in before my time is up). But maybe I just don't queue for enough RT games to know how widespread the problem is.

Getting distracted while waiting in queue and then missing the start of a game that loads/ starts normally is a different issue.
That's exactly what I've been doing to avoid getting distracted and missing the start of a game I was in queue for. I also relay on the sound for a new game starting, which is not always reliable as the sound on BGA randomly turns off sometimes.

I don't do a lot of playing BGA on a cell phone. So I don't have much to stay about that. There are two screen type cell phones out there. Maybe browsing in one of these while waiting in queue in the other one would work out?.

I'm not sure if you understood my suggestions, but one of them is to make the penalty even smaller when people miss games (0% or 1% through the game = 0 or 1 karma loss instead of 10 or 20.)

I am only advocating for larger karma losses when people quit games with 3+ players after playing a part of the game normally.

How is it a different issue? I understand that from the POV of the user who is distracted/misses the start of the game due to glitching, they are different. But from the POV of other players at the table - it's the same. I queued for a game. A user joined. They never played their turn. I booted them. Now I'm in the queue again.

My point was that while some of those people may have legitimate reasons (eg. glitching), others don't. How is BGA to tell? Are those who get distracted supposed to get a pass because sometimes people get glitches? I'd be willing to bet that more games get missed at the start due to (avoidable) distraction, rather than glitching. But if glitching is a widespread problem, people should be reporting it (not anecdotally, like it happens to me "all the time", but specifically, "it happened at this table, this time, this date".

What happens in n emergency? In spite and malice there seems no ay to concede the loss and forfiet the game. I had an emergency and was quite happy to lose the game but ended up getting 20 karma because I could not concede the game
