Flock animals

Post by bergerOUS »

Hi folks!

Just finished an arena-game. During my last move I liked to play the Northern Giraffe. I had no free enclosure but the Giant Panda in my zoo. Both are plant-eater, in my oppinion I could use the flock animal effect but it wasn't possible. Is it a bug, or is my interpretation wrong? In the German glossary I can't find a note that this is not allowed.

Kind regards

It is only allowed when the animal is a flock animal (which the Northern Giraffe is not), this ability has to be on the card explicitely. Only plant-eaters can be flock animals, but there are a lot of plant-eaters which aren´t - like the Northern Giraffe.

...somtimes I'm blind...
I thaught of zebras and giraffes - I have seen in zoos in same enclosure - also possible in arche nova but the giraffe has to be played first.
Thanks for your answer.

You can definitively flock herbivores with non flock herbivores. To flock, all you need is an enclosure already containing a herbivore (flock or not) that is the same size or bigger than the flocking animal you want to play.

My guess is you didn't have enough money, you didn't match a condition (rock, water, animal2 card...), you played waza special sponsor and picked to play only large/small animals or some other weird condition that made it impossible to play that animal other than because of flocking.

You'd need to share the match and at the step at which you couldn't play that animal so we can see all the requirements, probably from the sponsors.

Flock herbivores can be flocked with non-flock herbivores. But it is not possible to flock a non-flock herbivore, even with already played flock herbivores - and this was the problem in this case.
The Northern Giraffe is a non-flock herbivore, therefore it cannot be flocked when played. That´s all.

Please be precise in your answer otherwise people will learn the wrong rule : flocking never check enclosures. More generally, animals are never inside enclosures all along !
The only thing flocking check is whether you have a *played herbivore* with *enclosure requirement big enough*.
So even if you play a size-2 herbivore in a size-5 enclosure, you wont be able to flock your Reindeer.

That's me being picky, but bad exemple because Zebra has flock 2. Works if you replace by Reindeer or Kangaroo.

It is possible to play a flocking animal with no enclosure at all on your board ! You'd need to cover a rescue-station-hex using a sponsor card, and bury a herbivore of equal or greater size. Great fun ! :D

Much simpler. You don´t need the sponsor, every building is ok.
And you could do that with release projects as well, releasing the "host" animal and flipping the enclosure, leaving the flocking animal homeless. And you still can flock another flocking animal with it, despite any enclosures, and not needing any.
