What is the difference "popular" games and "trending" games?

I would guess either:

1. Trending just has a shorter, more recent time frame. E.g., most played past 2-3 days versus past 6 months
2. Trending is showing those with the biggest increase in plays, popular with the most plays. Trending would probably need some minimum to qualify.
