Red thumb to avoid players in Arena

Post by grojaky »

I have the feeling that a player intentionally put a red thumb to me to avoid playing against me in arena on a specific game (I have 100% victories against him). Did this ever occur to you? Is there a way to know which player blacklisted you? I just see he never has on-going games, which is weird considering his score changes regularly and game is long and not live ;)

Not being able to see someone's turned-based games in progress is one way to tell if they have red-thumbed you.

Refer to this thread: https://boardgamearena.com/forum/viewto ... 05#p207805
You can find all users that red thumbed you and all users you have red thumbed by inspecting the source code on any BGA page as long as you are logged in.
As for never having ongoing games, they could play real-time games exclusively and just happen to only be active when you're not watching.

Thanks, great feature indeed. So indeed this dude red thumbed me ;) So just to win an arena players avoid best players of the game, that's insane.

Interesting to see the list, some players I clearly had some issues with them, but realize that a bunch of them are just high-ranked ELO on games I play, I would never have considered giving red thumb just to avoid strong players, that's so sad

I have been red thumbed by about 10% of the top players in Century: Spice Road.

Or for any other reason. Maybe they don't like your avatar, or your playing style, or maybe they don't like losing (not necessarily because they want to win Arena), or they think you're cheating, or someone told them that you're a player to avoid, or you once said something in the forum they didn't like...

I really question the red thumb system working for arena games. What is the point when it's used to deny to play agagainst top players and instead farm points with a lot of games against inexperiecned players?

Red Thumbs should be used to block bad communications and not to deny playing against specific players for strategical reasons. This creates a whole new (invisible for most) meta game. Why would you allow this?

Red thumbs should be disregarded in Arena.

Arena is voluntary, and can be thought of as a months-long tournament. If someone wishes to avoid specific players, arena should just not be played by that player. It's bizarre to me that in a tournament of sorts that seems to carry high prestige, a player can simply red-thumb-block high Elo players to avoid playing tough opponents.

We are starting to regurgitate a well-worn topic. For example, Prevent arena matching making abuse and Question about red thumbs?
