question (Arena)

Post by dessp7 »

Hola todos.
Yeah, I am still here, cant fully drop it xD

Anyway, I have a question regarding Arena.
Just had a game against 650 Elo player in arena who where at 35 place (I was in ~400).

He opened as UN and I as Vitor. And he wanted to abandon the game (suggested, not forced).
My hand was not bad and I couldnt force me to accept that abandoning. And I decided to play it. (Usually against 500 ELO+ I am losing).
He played well, he lost with just 3 points difference.

The pint is, because my points where too low for him, he now need to win against 10+ matches with person with my points to get back as he was.
I understand that luck in this game do a lot, and sometimes you just not get cards to win even if you are to p player.

But one thing, if you lose few times, then win few times and you are even, and another, when it is bad card luck for you + your opponent is low point, so it will hit you very hard in therms of come back.

So, do you guys think it is fair? Maybe something need to be changed?
That person seems nice and I feel like I am an "bad person" that didnt accept his offer to abandon the game.

That's why there should be further filters for arena games, restricting only to elite is just not enough

Hi Dessp7,

You won the game fair and square. When people play arena voluntarily, they are accepting that a match might occur against a lower-rated player. The 650-rated player should win against the 400-rated player often enough that it would not affect either player's Elo in the long term. You have nothing to feel bad about.

If the player had said, "I just started a few games and a life emergency has arisen that will prevent me from playing for a week and I am trying to cancel all my games in progress", that would be a different story.

But, asking to cancel just because of being matched against a 400-ELo player? No, that's not reasonable to expect from the opponent.

I just reviewed the game. You played well.

Now, should we be having a discussion about hackers? :)

The very notion that a tiered match making system isn’t employed by default the way it is in basically every other game type known to mankind is a rather alarming issue. Blatantly incompetent choice imho.

Also there are definitely people who are higher ranked and want to maintain that playing arena at the end of the season on other accounts for that exact reason (oh you joined in July 2025 and are 18-0 in arena? Right.)
