Just want to vent a bit

Heyhey, just wanted to vent a bit.

Participated in a swiss tournament for splendor for the first time. I was winning my first match imo, when the duration of the tournament game limit was reached. I automatically got second while I had a way better position to win than the player who got first and thus all the points. Feels really unfair and I'm quite sad at how dishonest the system is.

Blame the player who went over time. And no, there's no way to know who was "going to win" or "in a better position". Tournament games work like that, if they don't finish on time, players are ranked by their remaining time, so the other player was actually in a better position, apparently.

I know thats not how it works, thats not the point. Thats why I said I just wanted to vent a bit. Its unfair, but I get it.

And no, he wasnt in a better position. If the game continued, I would have won almost certainly. Any good splendor player can tell you that when looking at the end screen. We both had plenty of time left, he just had a bit more.

But yea, there is no way to program something like that so its just tough luck. I can still feed sad about it though.

Maybe he realized the game was not going to end normally, so he just played fast so he would more time left at the end

Just one of the many reasons playing with more than 2 players is a mistake.

Interesting. Your post made me curious so I checked out the game. Are you sure you were in a better position? Here's what I see:
* You were minimum two turns away from fulfilling the color criteria for a city; the "winning" player was minimum 3 turns away >> advantage you
* When the game was called, you had 1 point while the winner had 3 >> advantage them
* You had one stronghold placed, on an expensive card that didn't help you meet city color criteria, and for which you needed a few turns to get the chips/cards to purchase. Meanwhile the winner had 3 strongholds placed, all of which were triple-whammys meaning that they gave points while also helping to fulfill city criteria, and they also contributed to each other's purchase (buying one brings you closer to buying another) >> advantage them

I haven't looked at the cards that each player reserved, and that also affects position, but from the above, it looks to me as if the "winner" was in strong position.

What have I missed? I've never participated in a tournament but I like Splendor and am genuinely curious
