Reportable behavior

Post by twiddly2 »

For the Admins:

The guidelines in every game say "insults and aggressive behavior" are not tolerated.

What about taunting and intimidation in the game chat? Are these actions that will result in moderation?

It needs to be reported in order for something to happen. Go to the offending player's profile and click on the "Report this player" button at the top. Then "x behaved inappropriately in the chat." Then "in a discussion around a game table." Then it will ask for the table ID and automatically select tables (not sure how far back it goes) where you were in the same game as that player to help you find it. Etc.

Just like level 0 & 1 “insults” are subjective I suppose so is taunting & intimidation. Some people believe it is taunting to say gg if you win and the game wasn’t close. Would you mind sharing in what ways someone taunted and intimidated you? You can report whoever you want but if it’s a justifiable report is a different topic

Here's the game chat transcript:

Relevant chat log extracts

As far as I know, no action was taken against the offending player. I have followed up to ask why this behavior is allowed. The taunting and harassment caused me to be unable to think, and completely sucked the joy out of playing. My clock did not run out at any point during this game. I believe it was a tactic to shift the dynamics of the game during play.

If you look at the moderation policy you will see this person is in violation. I’ve had the conversation about etiquette & asking if a player can play faster. Several ppl here think it is wrong to do this even if you ask kindly and will report. Not only did this person try to rush you but they were rude about it. Rudeness & rushing ppl are both against policy.

If you report they will be found guilty and get -10 karma

I did report it. And no, they didn't get penalized. Perhaps that kind of behavior in chat (not just rudeness, and harassing other players to hurry up, but taunting after that) was not found to be in violation of any policies. Moderation is likely a very subjective process.

How do you know they weren’t moderated? Previously if someone received a chat ban you could see their moderations while they were restricted. That option no longer exist. Bga made adjustments so you can’t see why ppl were penalized (just looked at my own reputation & now it list every penalty I ever had. But that is only visible to me). So unless you continuously studied this persons rep then they could’ve gotten a -10 penalty and easily built their rep back up to perfect within an hour after being rude to you lol

Did you receive an email regarding your report?

I red thumb players that tell me or someone else to play faster if the clock is not about to run out. Telling someone to hurry up at any other point is an attempt to throw them off their game. Why choose a slow setting and ask someone to hurry up? It is a tactic. Red thumb them and they won't play with you again. I also note the game and 'pushy' in the note section for the player.

I did get the usual email reply after submitting my report. I came to my conclusion because I did not see the penalty listed on their profile, aside from the usual time and leaving the game penalities. A player I reported (years ago) had it show up on their profile, with a link to the report. If those moderated penalties are no longer visible, then I would not be able to see them. In any case, I'm not going to hound the Admins even if they decided to let the player I reported go scot-free. I rarely report players, and only do so when there would be a clear benefit i.e. discouraging/preventing this happening to another BGA player. It's not fun getting hurried and taunted before and after each move. It's just sleazy tactics, not gamesmanship.
