Finishing in top half of a game should = positive results

Post by Griffon76 »

I love playing papayoo, but I am continuing to be annoyed that when I finish in the top half of a game (not including first). That we continually get negative ELO if you are a higher elo player.

In a 4 person arena game, and you are in the top 10, and you finish 2nd, you usually lose elo/elite points, which means, you are never able to catch the later in first who gets there and never plays the rest of the season. This needs to change, or you need to adjust elo/elite points down if someone doesn't play for longer than 1 week once they are at #1. At least give those in the top 10 a chance to get to first. Top half should be +ve movement up.

In the current season of 6 players, I have finished 2nd only to not get any new shields towards advancing. I believe that this needs to change and top half should receive positive movement.

Thank you

Another option would be to delink ELO from Arena seasons, then everyone is on the same footing for points allocation in games. This would mean every place finish would be a set point amount?

The ELO system is the same for all games, there is no specificity for any game and it can not be changed at the game level (this is handled by the BGA framework).
In a 4 players game, if you end second, then for the ELO system you have one lost against the first (and you lose ELO points for this depending on the ELO delta between both players) and two wins against the two other players (and you win points for both depending on the delta). The result can be positive, especially if your ELO is one of the lowest of the four players. But if you were having the best ELO of all four, you probably end up loosing points.
