Players’ time zone dilemma

Post by ng3 »

It is recommended that the joining screen of turn-based games can add time zones or national flags. Currently, only the avatar and ID are displayed, and new players cannot intuitively know the time zones of other players at the table. The game process often takes too long to wait due to different time zones, causing time zone dilemmas.

As has been explained many times before same timezone does not necessarily correspond with the same playtime. Some people may play in the mornings, some during the day, some only in evenings, some even very late at night, some all of these (or a combination).

If players could define their active hours that might make a difference, but for me, my active hours vary. I typically check games a bunch of times in my waking hours, which is generally something like 7am-11pm, but it depends. Some nights I have insomnia and I might come back at 3am. Fridays are always quite busy and so I maybe get time to look over breakfast (but not always), and then not til evening. Some weekends I get really busy and might only check in once each day. So what would I even put for my active hours?

If you set up 'Fast Turn Play' games, you can set the active hours as well. This sounds like what you want.

Now, it is possible that the active hours option should be added to 2 plays per day games (or slower), but that's a separate issue.

Perhaps the best solution is to display the "playing time set by the owner" on the table selection page without requiring participants to click on the page to view it. (After all, most people are lazy)

You can see it without clicking on the page if you join from the Play Now page. For example, I'm looking at a list of Ark Nova games. One says:
"Open for joining (Fast Turn-based * 8 moves per day between 8:00 and 20:00)"

Another says:
"Open for joining (Fast Turn-based * 8 moves per day between 0:00 and 12:00)"

That is converted to your local time so you don't even have to do the math.

That said, this is still true.
