Currently, each ocean tile on the board provides a 2M€ placement bonus for any player later placing a tile next to it. But I find it that ocean tiles are placed later in the game and that those spaces next to empty ocean tiles are usually already filled up when you do put down an ocean so you don't get any placement bonus when putting down an ocean. I feel it would be better if you can get the 2M€ placement bonuses when you put down an ocean next to tiles you control and any tile later on. What do you all think?
Does anyone else not like how ocean tile bonuses work?

Seems like the ordering and sequencing of actions in your games is incorrect and inefficient if those tiles are already occupied before oceans have come down. Rebates are very powerful, wasting them is usually less than ideal but can be useful on occasion to prevent an opponent taking them.Starwarrior1128 wrote: ↑22 July 2025, 18:03 Currently, each ocean tile on the board provides a 2M€ placement bonus for any player later placing a tile next to it. Absolutely nothing should change about how these rebates work. But definitely you and your regular play group should reconsider how you’re sequencing things if you’re wasting these resources regularly.

I dont like how lava flow works for free ocean bonus, it should give the option to drop the free ocean bonus first.

It does. You have to manually sequence raise temp, place ocean, place tile.
At least it worked with Nuke Zone last time I tried it. I assume it should work with Flows too?

Nah, how it works is intentional and really good. Makes you think about things more. Makes things more interesting in regards to whether you want to greed a spot for ocean rebates, or take immediately, and so on.Starwarrior1128 wrote: ↑22 July 2025, 18:03 Currently, each ocean tile on the board provides a 2M€ placement bonus for any player later placing a tile next to it. No, flows and nuclear zone work differently. It’s due to the ordering on the card. Flows places tile first, zone bumps heat first

I enjoy how it is because it makes you want to compete for those early ocean placements and utilizing their MC bonuses in future turns, predicting where your opponents will be placing tiles and denying it is a big mind game and effective strategy in TM. In essence , Terraforming mars is a tile placing game which is a big intricate mechanic in the game, and each spot has its own specific use scenario and you have to compete for those important locations or you'll surely fall behind in a Terraforming/ground game. Each game has its own niche, and win conditions. It's up to you to decide how you want to play your hand and what strategy you think will work best in pursuing your corporation's goals!

That’s not how the rules work. Just checked, there’s already a bug report and it’s been confirmed by devs. Flows is functioning incorrectly atm and should allow raise heat > place ocean > place tile but isn’t.starfire00 wrote: ↑22 July 2025, 21:49 No, flows and nuclear zone work differently. Edit for context: The rules are quite clear, order of operations on cards is determined by the player playing the card. The only known exceptions to this, according to the Fryx Bros in previously made statements by them, are greenery placement tiles as it is the act of placing the greenery that raises the o2.

Check the rules. The active player decides the order of effects, regardless of the order in which they are printed on the card.starfire00 wrote: ↑22 July 2025, 21:49 No, flows and nuclear zone work differently. It’s due to the ordering on the card. Flows places tile first, zone bumps heat first

I suspect there is a conflict in the script, since giant iced asteroid had to be fixed earlier as well. What does lava flow and GIA in common? They both are events while nuke zone is not.jaymc1130 wrote: ↑22 July 2025, 23:01That’s not how the rules work.
