Please add expansions

Post by Grünvogel »

Or explain why you dont. License/time issues? It would be so great & we would really appreciate it. I think wingspan is one of the most played games here and people are getting tired of it and would like some spice.

Thanks a lot for everything

My guess is that there will not be expansions because another paid version already exists (each expansion is additional $$). Website if you would like to check it out (https://www.monstercouch.com/wingspan/). If I’m not mistaken, the board game developers get a cut of the $$ so there aren’t really any incentives to put the expansions on here (even if I think the interface and gameplay are far superior on BGA than the app version).

So i played the europe expansion at home a few times. To start with the positive note: the game is surely more balanced with the europe expansion and i think it's normally a (very) good thing that a game is more balanced, on the other hand there are a lot of shit birds in the european expansion and i am often frustrated because it seems very hard to get a good setup. Based on that experience i am actually not missing the (european) expansion. I like the competetive play as it is now

I actually got the European and Asian expansions at the same time (Xmas gifts this past December), so I have a hard time separating them in my mind. My family enjoys playing with both of them mixed in to the base game. Yes, there are always some percentage of weaker birds, but I haven't had HUGE issues because of it.

Interesting. My feeling is the opposite. I find the base game tedious and boring, filled with numerous low-quality birds, boring bonus cards, and End-round-goals that feel repetitive and boring.

I agree with you regarding balance. It's nearly impossible to set up a wetland scoring engine in the base game. The meta seems to be "2 in the forest, 1 in the wetland, hope for some not-terrible grassland birds, and run the grassland engine." Yawn.

Looking at the EE cards, here are some that I think are awesome or interesting or both:

Audouin’s Gull
Black-tailed Godwit
Bonelli’s Eagle
Common Chaffinch
Common Chiffchaff
Common Cuckoo
Common Goldeneye
Common Starling
Common Swift
Corsican Nuthatch
Eastern Imperial Eagle
Eurasian-Collared Dove
Eurasian Sparrowhawk
European Goldfinch
European Honey Buzzard
European Turtle Dove
Goldcrest
Griffon Vulture
House Sparrow
Little Bustard
Mute Swan
Northern Goshawk
Red Knot
Red-legged partridge
Ruff
Savi’s Warbler
Snow Bunting
Short-toed Treekeeper
Snowy Owl
White Stork
White Wagtail
White-throated Dipper
Yellowhammer

With many of those birds being very high tier. The ability to perform extra actions, to perform actions after the round is over. to convert extra food into points, to use cards as food. More options for tuck engines.

I think the real breakthrough was the improves game board with Oceania, making it so much less of a slog to get food and cards early in the game, along with the increased playability of birds in the starting hand that cost 2 of the same food.

But I certainly love playing with the EE expansion.

It saddens me that we are likely stuck here with no expansions, considering how much better the interface and playing experience here is than on the other major platform that apparently prevents us from getting expansions here.

I mean, the number of players who have bitterly complained about the multi-player experience on that other platform? It numbers in the thousands. That's not an exaggeration.
