Suggestion: A different way of ELO matching +/- 50

Post by just this girl »

I tend to hover around 180 - 220 ELO on Ark Nova.

If I'm <200 I *must* allow games with any average players - but that includes players whose score is very low hundreds, who are often very slow and/or don't know the game well yet.

If I'm >200 I *must* allow games with players of up to 299 who I have NO chance of beating. They know the game better than I do, and it's probably not much fun for them tbh.

I'd like to play against others who are near me in ELO - say +/-50, so it's fun for both parties!

I find I'm constantly expelling players who join my games and I feel bad!

Do others agree?

I don't think Ark Nova has any code that is relevent to match making. If you want to pick your oponents, turn automatic matchmaking to manual and you will be able to have better control over the opponent yous play.

Honestly, the elo losses and gains are such that there isn't that much difference between 100 , 200 and 299.

There is enough variance that a 200 player has a fine chance against 299.

Yeah try arena, I am around a 200 rating and my last 6 games I have been matched against 450+, safe to say I haven't won any of my last 6 games

I also find the match making in Arena very annoying. I am playing really low, Silver with aroud 150 ELO. But still I constantly get matched against players with 300-500, so they win for sure and we both waste an hour of time as they don't even get many points for winning agains a low rated player.

I wonder why this is not taken into account and you can only play agains players in your league +/- 1 maybe? Or in some ELO range?

Arena and normal elo is a completely separate system, as such there's nothing settings-wise that can be done from someone 100 ELO getting matched up against someone 800 ELO for an arena game if they're in the same arena league. That's half the point of arena is everyone starts at a (nearly) equal point in terms of arena ranking.

There are settings to make sure you only play against someone is the same arena league (or +/-1 and similar); of if you're looking for non-arena games, ways to restrict the elo ranges that you play with. However those settings are well hidden and only work if you create games in one particular way.

Thanks, was not aware of that!
