Frustration Arena

Post by Playadora »

Why have the Rules become so Ultrastrikt?? It is super Frustration to Receive 0 Star for Place 2 only 10 points behind No. 1 and over hundred points distance to Place 3.

Without knowing which match it was and which player had which elo it’s hard to tell, but you might find an answer in the calculation of the Elo:
A player's Elo rating is a number that may change depending on the outcome of rated games played. After every game, the winning player takes points from the losing one. The difference between the ratings of the winner and loser determines the total number of points gained or lost after a game. If the higher-rated player wins, then only a few rating points will be taken from the lower-rated player. However, if the lower-rated player scores an upset win, many rating points will be transferred. The lower-rated player will also gain a few points from the higher rated player in the event of a draw. This means that this rating system is self-correcting. Players whose ratings are too low or too high should, in the long run, do better or worse correspondingly than the rating system predicts and thus gain or lose rating points until the ratings reflect their true playing strength.

But maybe you are talking about Arena points and not about elo… sorry in that case.

Arena points work like elo: the score does not matter, it does not matter how close or far you are, the only thing that matters is the final place and the Arena/elo points of the players above/below you.

Post is old, and OP played dozens of games since (and reached elite, so the below isnt relevant for her this season anymore), but along the description and time stamp, it‘s most likely about this game: https://boardgamearena.com/table?table=700736300

Then, OP is neither talking about ELO nor „arena-ELO“ that only gets visible after reaching elite, but about arena league points/shields.

The explanation for the „harsh rule“ (that is nothing new at all, but has been like that since forever) is that, as only silver league player on the table, losing vs one bronze league player loses you as much (or actually even more, don’t recall precisely) as winning vs two bronze league players, and as Jellby says, the gamescore doesnt matter, just vs whom you win/lose.

You can mitigate that by strictly only allowing players in the same league to your arena table, though I‘m not sure whether that doesnt restrict your options too much, as it also removes all players from higher leagues, that would be very lucrative to win against.
