I decided I'd give this a try and I hope this is the right place for this. I am yet again in need of a new computer mouse. Since playing BGA is one of my main uses of said computer mouse now, I thought why not post on BGA directly.
Brief history:
I've gone back to using a older computer mouse that is failing, getting slow and getting stuck on the screen after two other computer mice broke on me. I can't believe I kept playing with it as long as I did. Then eventually I picked up what I'll call cheapo mouse at a discount store. I got it working and I decided I really wanted something better. Sudden battery failure has been a regular issue along with needing frequent charging.
For one thing, I underestimated how long it would go without charging and it left me with a cursor stuck on my screen in the midst of a real time game. I managed to mention mouse issues in the ingame chat right before the curser froze on my screen and I couldn't play anymore.
Thank goodness for nicer players that will switch a real game to turn based when tech issues come up saving me from a penalty, instead kicking a player who couldn't play and was timing out.
But I'll get back to cheapo mouse shortly.....
I spent over $100 on new computer mice. Both hot messes for totally different reasons:
#1 was a mail order ergonomic mouse that got lost in the mail. I eventually gave up on it due to the shipping problems. I figured out that my order that been redirected to China when I specifically ordered from a company that I know is nearby and usually ships to my area very quickly. I mostly needed it to work on an art project , which I delayed until right before the due date. I threw in the towel and gave up on this eventually.
#2 was a specialized gaming mouse worth about $100 new from a company called Razer. I purchased a refurb one from Ebay. Unlike #1 it came in a reasonable timeframe, despite coming from the west coast and me being on the east of the USA. Problem was I couldn't get it working and I couldn't find any straight answers why I couldn't get it working. I made a huge mistake getting impatient after waiting a long time for limbo mail order mouse and I was assuming computer mice had become more universal then they really are so I did no research at all on compatibility issues. So I had this fancy gaming mouse which sat on my desk. I eventually found out that yes, it's incompatible with my computer and I need to resell my expensive paper weight. I couldn't blame the ebay seller at all for what was my fault in the purchase.
So now I had $100 invested in two different computer mice that I couldn't use for different reasons and I was still stuck playing with cheapo mouse.
My system become using the cheapo mouse and having my older broken mouse ready to go on my desk as backup when cheapo mouse ran out of battery, which happened on a regular basis playing BGA.
The other day, cheapo mouse seems to have suddenly stopped working completely leaving me with my partially broken slow backup mouse that will get the curser stuck on the screen on a regular basis. So I now really don't want to risk playing any real time games on BGA.
So I am back to square one with computer mice:
- I like lefty mice despite being right handed. I injured my right wrist at one time, switched and never looked back. Also I have a table next to my left side for my computer mouse so I am setup only for using mouse left handed. Of course lefties are a niche market so this has narrowed my choices.
- I want it for editing my art digitally and playing BGA. I don't know if I'd benefit from having a gaming mouse playing BGA or not. I do think I benefit from having an ergonomic mouse when I'm using krita for my digital art editing and to a lesser extent, playing BGA too. I had considered a tablet for my art, but it's just not in the cards to add another expensive digital device for the forseeable future so the mouse has to be double duty.
- I have an apple mac mini. So it must be compatible with my Apple system. I get that this is Apples' lower end/ more basic lineup of computers. So that probably limits me somewhat.
- If it's wireless, I want it to be rechargable. Would be nice if it would hold a charge better than my cheapo mouse did. Having to BRB ingame chats because my computer mouse is slowing down and I need to switch computer mice ingame because I forgot to plug it in overnight is a pita.
- Because of chronic pain and fatigue issues, I am sometimes unable to play at all and or will lie on the floor to watch youtube or watch other players on BGA. As result of this, I have been considering getting a tablet down the road to make this easier. So having a mouse that could also attach to a tablet would be a bonus.
- Given my history of having computer mice break, I'd like to find something higher end of decent quality that will not break down in a year. I'm willing shop around for a used higher quality used or refurb mouse if that's what it takes. Hopefully I can resell my current paper weight very soon to fund a new mouse and not get myself another expensive paper weight to replace it.
