Players with bad behavior, pushing others to "Play faster"

Post by Magicnerd »

A lot of people on here complain about the occassional leaver ruining a game. Personally, I encountered this very little, to the point that it's negligible.

Something I do see a lot though when playing on BGA, is people actually spamming in chat about others having to play faster, while other player's are just normally within their time clocks. As I play a lot of games where I am relatively new and don't have that many matches under my belt, I am often being harrassed for taking my time to think, and I am not even talking about extremes, I am not often actually even close to running out of time.

It's just that some players like to play very fast, but still join games that are (purposely) normal or slow speed by configuration in the game finder.

Is it an idea to maybe make the game speed and flexibility of it more prominently visible? I get the feeling that a lot of players don't realize they are joining a game with a speed lower than "fast".

That kind of behaviour is reportable. I would potentially ask them politely to stop, or you will report them. If they continue, follow through. Red thumb and don't play them again.

Do you really think they don't know the speed of their game? I personally doubt it. I suspect it's more that harassing their opponents has worked in the past, so they continue.

Report them.

The clock is the rules. You can use every last second of it. The moment you go over the opponent can expel you (for any reason they like). if you don't you are 100% within the rules.

If someone does not like the rules they should take it to the suggestions section not raise it in the chat.

I think pushing other players to play faster is unfair, not only as a question of time. The thoughtful player's thoughts are disrupted, which can lead to worse results and finally loosing the game. This might not always be the intention, but in my opinion, this form of manipulation should be stopped at all costs!

What about those pushing others to "not expel", when people go over time in fast-paced collaborative games?

If you want to discuss that, feel free to open a new thread about it. This one is about players playing inside the time limit.

I've seen and have been annoyed by this behavior as well and while it's never OK to pressure other, I think BGA could offer more options that would make this less annoying for both sides by:

- adding more time options, ideally something that adds less time per turn but still keep a reasonable reserve time, some games have a lot of turns and even the fastest options can be a drag if player use all their time
- allow to hide chat or ignore players, the red thumb doesn't help the ongoing game and is overkill if it's someone polite but annoyingly impatient (this would be useful in other situations as well, such as players chatting in a language you don't understand)

report it, but please do not call out specific players in a forum while doing it, because that is also not allowed, and it would be a bummer to end up getting a penalty for that. (No one in this thread did this, but I have seen people do this, apparently unaware that it is in itself a penalty. )
