How stars are assigned when winning/ losing?

How stars are assigned when winning/ losing?

Can someone point me to how the stars/points are determined after you win or lose a game. Not looking for scoring during the game but for how the "ranking" points get assigned. Seems like a huge difference each time and so far seems random
