Straw Manure does not seem to work properly.

The card says, "Before the field phase of each harvest, you can pay 1 grain from your supply to add 1 vegetable to each of up to 2 vegetable fields." I have 5 fields, 3 of them are sown with grain, the remaining 2 are empty. I have one grain in my supply available to spend. The game allows me to select the option to "Pay 1 grain to add 1 veggie to 1 or 2 fields". I select that button, and then it prompts me to select a field. No matter which field I click on, it won't select it.

Do I already need veggies planted for this to work? (ie. it's a already a veggie field and I can only just add another to it?). That's not what the button implies, and it makes this card quite weak if that is the case as it already has a base requirement of 2 fields.

Yes, the fields already need to have vegetables in them. Before that, they are not "vegetable fields".

Would be a little bit strong to turn 1 grain into 2 veg without any other setup than empty fields lol.

Ah ok, thanks. I didn't think it would work that way because it makes it relatively weak as a minor improvement. It can only be used once, and is best optimized when a player already has 2 veg fields with veg in them. It seems at best it might be worth 1 point at the end, but with a very narrow window in which to play it.

It is not an especially strong card no. It works in niche cases where u can reliably get both crops types in the ground (think Childless or Winter Caretaker), or setups for stuff like Nutrition Expert or Veggie Lover. Can also just be for Hearth / Oriental Fireplace / Schnapps Distiller feeding. It is okay niche card in specific circumstances.

FYI it works more than once, you can use it every harvest.

But it's a very awkward card.

You are correct. Apologies, I was thinking of the game I just played it in, only had one shot to use it since I kept using up my grain to bake bread. OK, I can see how if I had played an early veggie field, it would have a little more punch to it. Thanks.
