ergonomy suggestion

Post by jc h »

great job, thanks a lot Einstein for the nice Yinsh implementation in BGA :)

Just two suggestions to share:
- from my previous games on BoiteàJeux, I think we had a hint on the last move done by the game partner (highlighted marker and ring I believe) and this helped in deciding next move because it is easier to see what is going on without scrolling into the history. Just for game comfort but not a big issue
- I play either on Chromebook and on Android, both with Chrome, and on the mobile Android version I would prefer having the gameboard on top of the screen and the list of moves below. At the moment it make it a bit less user friendly when you want to move to the board, especially when you would like to zoom in to avoid a misclick when doing it with fingers rather with a mouse

One suggestion I have is for there to be a sound effect when pieces are placed on the board and when markers are flipped.

Move highlighting
I had the same suggestion (and discussions) with DVONN already.

I decided to not show any highlighting of previous moves for all games of the GIPF series but instead give players a way to just replay the last own move and that of the opponent. The own last move is often equally important as the opponents one since for turn based games you might remember what you're own plans were.

There might be simple moves in the GIPF games, but often you also have more complex moves which are hard to grasp with just some highlights or markers on the board. Just replaying the last moves feels way more intuitive.

In case you didn't know that this feature exists: The moves table on the top left can be used to show any previous board state. The top middle button replays the last 2 moves.

Position of moves table
I play the games on my desktop as well as on a small mobile device (iPhone 13 mini). On the desktop the table is left of the board, on the phone I always have the table collapsed and don't use it all - except the mentioned top middle button to replay the last 2 moves.

Sounds
I will not add sounds to any of my games.

As the moves are getting logged on the right-hand side for me, the timestamp is hard to see with the grey background.

It's grey text on a grey background.

Perhaps the color of the text could be changed to be visible?
