improvement ideas(?)

Post by TommyHotwheels »

So i like this game, for me it fits that "Break the Code" itch. Although it seems to fall into some similar issues as that game. here are some issues i have and psossible fixes.

1) First Player does seem to have an advantage since all info is shared.
- once 1 player answers then all remaining players that round get a chance to answers
- All game are done tournament style where each players rotates through starting position.

2) Finding the same code. BGA version does not actually support the 2 player version of the game where each player has a different code to solve. the 3(and up) player versions acre actually done with 1 player playing the codemaster and the others guessing. 2 players on BGA is 3 players in the real game with 2 guessers and the Computer takes on the role of code master.
- make all player counts have each player create, or are randomly given, a unique code that the next player is trying to guess. I think that having to consider what info you are giving up when asking a clue adds a nice twist and extra complexity to the game.

My improvement idea: would be nice to be able to see your first incorrect guess after you’ve made it, as it’s quite easy to forget, especially if you were going for a 50/50 guess.

Also some space to write notes other than ticking off numbers. For example if you knew that one of the numbers in the column was a 4 but not which one, or if you have two combinations of numbers that work together.

Hello !

1) I defenitely agree one should be able to see which was they early propositon in case of wrong guesses.

2) As we can see which question was asked by an opponent and which was the answer it becomes a bit odd sometimes... Because at some point you don't want to ask a good question, afraid a giving the last good information and to give the chance to an opponent to win. The best is then to ask useless questions and wait for an opponent to accidentally give you the final hint. Moreover we have no pression at all during the game to ask really good questions because we can still wait on oppoents to ask for more useful hints. SUGGESTION : Opponents could have the same code to guess but be unable the see the answer to oppoents' questions. Therefor each person could have interest in asking good questions to be the fastest to guess the code !

Anyway, thanks for this BGA version !

Players can concede the game and the code isn’t revealed.

This is frustrating as the other player can’t see how close they were to getting the solution.

I created a suggestion for that, but it was rejected:

The font of the clue numbers you next to the led displays should really change into a digital numbers font, to match the led display numbers. It is very misleading and confusing as it is.

There was already a suggestion for that, see https://boardgamearena.com/bug?id=179388

One of my opponents had an excellent suggestion for the one on one matches:
- Rather than two guesses, everybody gets a single "secret" question for which only they can see what was asked and the answer.

It adds a strategic element of when to use the secret clue and what to ask to optimize what you gain from it. You could then reduce the number of guesses to 1 to essentially require that you fully define the state of the solution rather than switching to guessing at the point where more questions would completely reveal the answer to your opponent.

Yeah I suggested it, sadly it was rejected. Oh well. I have another idea, how about auto saving your draft? I keep forgetting to do it and it's annoying returning to the game and having to do it all over again... I can see this suggestion has been rejected also, sigh.
