Asmodee owns both BGA and Fantasy Flight Games and Z-Man games (among many other game companies) and yet we don't have a single FFL game on BGA nor do we have any Pandemic expansions despite many requests for expansions. Give how popular Pandemic games are and FFL games are, I seriously doubt there aren't any volunteers willing to adapt those games. Plus I have submitted suggestions (to their suggestions sub-forum and suggestion report page) to allow the fans to crowd fund games so that BGA is not completely reliant on volunteers but I have revived no response from the BGA team (in fact I have never seen any BGA staff reply on the forums ever).Ringbearer79 wrote: ↑08 August 2025, 14:19That is a bit short sighted. There are several factors in play. First of all, the company publishing the game should have their license available. You cannot just copy a game and publish it. Second: development is usually done by volunteers, so you need a person to develop and bring out the boardgame on BGA.Starwarrior1128 wrote: ↑06 August 2025, 21:42Don't have high hopes. BOTH of those would amuse me greatly!!!
In a similar vein, Duel of Ages.
That still doesn't mean there are developers ready. If you look for example at Twilight Imperium, which is a FFG game, that someone stepped up and went into it. And needed years to complete it. That's how much of a work that can be.Starwarrior1128 wrote: ↑12 August 2025, 04:04Asmodee owns both BGA and Fantasy Flight Games and Z-Man games (among many other game companies) and yet we don't have a single FFL game on BGA nor do we have any Pandemic expansions despite many requests for expansions. Boardgame companies want you to buy their game instead of playing it online for free. BGA is great for giving that exposure so you go out and buy the game with the expansions, FFG clearly feel they don't need to do this otherwise they would have (though Twilight Imperium is ffg)Starwarrior1128 wrote: ↑12 August 2025, 04:04Asmodee owns both BGA and Fantasy Flight Games and Z-Man games (among many other game companies) and yet we don't have a single FFL game on BGA nor do we have any Pandemic expansions despite many requests for expansions. Games like Pandemic will never be implemented by volunteers.Starwarrior1128 wrote: ↑12 August 2025, 04:04Asmodee owns both BGA and Fantasy Flight Games and Z-Man games (among many other game companies) and yet we don't have a single FFL game on BGA nor do we have any Pandemic expansions despite many requests for expansions. But didn't the company who made the original game already secured the rights? Also all of Lovecraft's works are in the public domain, so why no Lovecraft themed games on BGA, even though there are tons of them in real life? I have played LOTR: Fate of the Fellowship on BGA before and I didn't like it. Me and the other players in the game lost way too quickly and we are experienced board gamers and are used to hard games. I don't know what we were doing wrong or if the game has a steep learning curve or what.tchobello wrote: ↑12 August 2025, 14:19Games like Pandemic will never be implemented by volunteers.Starwarrior1128 wrote: ↑12 August 2025, 04:04Asmodee owns both BGA and Fantasy Flight Games and Z-Man games (among many other game companies) and yet we don't have a single FFL game on BGA nor do we have any Pandemic expansions despite many requests for expansions. The main problem is the cost of the digital rights (Tolkien, Lovecraft, etc.).
BTW, have you ever heard of LOTR: Fate of the Fellowship?
Technically if they chose to make their games Premium on BGA they get a profit sharing agreement with BGA so players wouldn't be playing their games for free on BGA. Yes there are risks to crowd funding, but how it's set up right now (relying completely on volunteers) just incentives simple and short games be developed. Though I do find it weird that the only FFG game being developed right now is Twilight Imperium when there are so many other shorter FFG games (that wouldn't take years to adapt) and that would be easier for new players to learn and play.SiRan90 wrote: ↑12 August 2025, 13:51Boardgame companies want you to buy their game instead of playing it online for free. On crowdfunding, this is risky. Who decides on who the developer should be, or which they should be paid, or when they should be pai?. Are they expected to maintain the game forever? Do they have to implement every suggestion posted? Who holds the money while it's in development? With all of this I think you over estimate the number of people that would sign up for this as any crowdfunding has risks of non fulfillment.
I don't agree that incentives volunteers to do short easy games as ithere is no benefit to them either way. They just develop the games they want toStarwarrior1128 wrote: ↑13 August 2025, 01:05Technically if they chose to make their games Premium on BGA they get a profit sharing agreement with BGA so players wouldn't be playing their games for free on BGA. Having the rights to create a board game does not imply that digital rights are included — and some games already have an exclusive dedicated app or website.Starwarrior1128 wrote: ↑13 August 2025, 00:58But didn't the company who made the original game already secured the rights?
