Leaving after someone was kicked

Post by koningco »

I would like to leave the tournament table at the bottom of this message, one other user was already kicked out this game days ago and another player today because she was out of time too. But when I choose "Quit this game" at the top left then I see this message:

Quit game in progress
You are about to quit a game in progress.
This will cost you some for this game, and 1 [-4 to -20☯] for your reputation.

A bad reputation may prevent you from chatting or joining some games!

Before deciding to quit a game in progress, especially if your opponent is not playing, please consider the following alternatives:
You can vote to abandon/concede the game collectively to avoid losing ELO or Karma points
You can vote to change the game to turn-based mode to allow out-of-time players to return to the table later and continue playing
You can choose to eject out-of-time players from the game (causing them to lose ELO and Karma)

The table I wanted to leave: https://boardgamearena.com/10/heat?table=704324402

I thought this game continued in friendly modus and that leaving after someone was kicked is always possible without punishment. Why do I get this message now? Should I have left immediately after the first user was kicked (a few days ago)?

Hello, you will need to ask someone that is an expert of Heat. RazorOz is the Heat tournament expert so he should know better.

Heat has been coded to have its own rules regarding what happens when players skip that is different than every other game on BGA.

Unlike other games on BGA, if 1 player is skipped in Heat, you are still expected to keep playing and finish the game without running out of time. Heat has been custom coded to handle players leaving and getting kicked.

I believe this adjustment is because Heat is often played with 4+ players and the game mechanics allow players to leave the game part way with relatively low impact to the game state (compared to other games). Due to the high player count of Heat the chances of somebody leaving a game are higher so the community requested this feature to continue playing as the lesser evil rather than end the games early.

In all other games once 1 player is skipped all players can leave the game without penalty and what happens in the rest of the game doesn't matter.
