How do you respond to “Red Thumb” chats?

Asking a general question about red thumbs is permitted. The OP did not refer to any specific player by name; that would not be permitted. The OP in this thread did not break any rules of the site.

I don't think aesche is referring to this thread, but to some player announcing in chat that "I'll red-thumb you", or that "you earned a red thumb from me and you won't be able to join the games I and my friends set up. Mwahahaha!". Personally, I find this is aggressive and threatening behaviour, and should not be acceptable (especially if "faster, please" is a reportable offense). It probably depends on the exact words and the moderator who handles it.

In an unrelated thread, multiple people told me they would red-thumb me or anyone who shared my opinion just on principle, without even having played any games against me.

(The given reason was that although I and others play fast and within the rules, we were breaking some sort of "unwritten rule" that "top players" agree to play by.)

I made the point that their actions essentially amounted to bullying people into playing their style of play, but my statements fell on deaf ears and resulted in more comments along the lines of, "well, check the discord and you'll see that our ay is considered the proper way to play."

It worked; I had little interest in being part of that special elite club that wanted to shame people who play fast and within the rules but not within THEIR rules.

Thee are, as of the moment of this post, over 23,000 active players on BGA. If 5,000 of them red thumb you, does it matter? You still have 18,000 potential players. So why worry about 1 player or their reasons?

You can RT for whatever reason you want, or no reason at all - and why should anyone else care?


(The only time I ever saw a red thumb that approached reportability was when a player went on an endless tirade about another player because they displayed the flag of their country. - the RT wasn't the issue, but subjecting that person to harrassment that they could not block even with an RT in return)

This has already happened to me. I checked my profile and someone that I never played a game with red thumb ed me and I had to presume it was because of recent interaction in the forum.
