Why are the current scores always visible?

Post by FDHenneberg »

In the MC App, you can only see your own score. In the board game, at least the way I know it, scores are only written down in the end. Trying to assess your opponent’s score is part of the challenge and part of the fun for me. Has that been discussed before? And do the scores even include hidden information like bonus card points?

On this question, I can answer that no, this does not include points coming from hidden information.

There is a ticket about this to add the option: https://boardgamearena.com/bug?id=72024

That being said, personally I like having the score, because I find that there are already enough things to take into account in this game ^^

Thanks, that was what I was looking for, though it’s old and so it will probably never change. Well, it’s fun anyway!

Is it a challenge to assess the opponents' scores? To me it seems like a tedious chore that anyone can do.

Count the eggs. Count the tucks. Count the bird points. Look at the EOR goals board, count those. Count the cached food.

So, five things to count, all using visible information.

Some games have the option to disable real-time scoring. I used to select this option for some games, but now I select the option to have it displayed, especially since I mostly play turn-based.

Ye, the only secret thing on board, when it comes to score, are the bonus cards. So scores are public thing

I agree; that being said, there are games in which ALL of the scoring information is public, yet people insist on playing without a scoreboard. It's interesting to me that it varies from game to game.

One aspect of digital implementations that I like is the use of technology to automate tedious tasks such as scorekeeping (either during the game or at game-end).

Other people prefer to keep it "hidden" to mimic the feel of the physical game (even though any player could go through the tedious calculation at any time).

That's why you add a "Scythe" rule to penalize anyone caught calculating.*

*J/K of course, because it doesn't work online.
