Googling words?

Post by misterbruno »

Is there a position on using Google, etc for JustOne? I don't think there's a specific rule about it for JustOne.

Personally, when I'm giving clues, I will use Google sometimes to come up with synonyms or definitions of words. Idioms are can also be helpful.

But when I'm guessing a word, I will not use Google even though it's tempting to do so. I think of it like using a word search site when playing Scrabble.

I do neither the one nor the other.
If you were to play the game physically, you wouldn't use Google either.

Part of the fun is seeing what other people come up with as clues. Even if the clues seem odd or far-fetched, it makes it interesting to see what they come up with. I don't think I've seen any words yet that were so obscure that nobody would know them - hard to make clues for, maybe, but not unknown.

I'm not a fan of googling synonyms or clues to give. However, if you don't know a word--be it a clue or a guessing word--I don't mind someone looking that up.

The entire point of the game is to see what words your group of friends will come up with. If instead it’s just a bunch of words that people pulled off Google, there’s literally no reason to play.

I don't google words, but I can use a dictionary to check spelling or etymology to avoid same family. It's a thing I would do IRL, and I think it would be encouraged by the authors, as they do tell that rules are important, but shouldn't go in the way of fun and/or learning.
