How to avoid causing a paradox?

Post by koningco »

I have played a few games so far, but in every game I cause at least one paradox (sometimes 2x). I've done 2 things so far to avoid this:
- Lay off a card that I van 3 (or even 4) times at the beginning of a round and remember this "safe" number during the round
- Follow the suit as much as possible

But still I keep causing paradoxes. Does anyone have advice for me how to avoid paradoxes? This is one of the games I played, 3 players and all lower level players. https://boardgamearena.com/4/catinthebo ... =667401486

i guess you already have found the answer.

but still, it is a card game & there is luck involved.

maybe try a game with 5p, there is an extra- spot that may prevent a paradox.

Great question, but yeah I think the better way to think about it is which card will other players have discarded based upon their wager and the numbers you don't have (remember there is 5 of each color, and with N players N are discarded and N will not have to be used), and bear in mind that people are (or, should be... usually?) trying to both maximize a clump of their tokens while exactly hitting their wager, but meanwhile, don't get too concerned about whether there will be a paradox, but rather that you don't cause it, paying attention also to the player order, and the current score, and number of rounds remaining.

Can you afford to risk winning tricks towards the end of the round?
Should you give up on the wager you made and just score tricks?
Can you cut off a big cluster an opponent is trying to create?
If you break the red suit first, are you giving up too many slots on the color which was led?
Should you connect your cluster this turn, or try to win the trick?

These are all the questions I am asking myself as I play. I'm no expert, but I do alright
