Hall of Scavengers criteria is unclear

Post by yuniboshi »

"Hall of Scavengers" is a Park facility that costs 3 and gives 1 reputation for "every two omnivores". What's an omnivore? It seems to not match description of any dinos.

In the base game, the one currently played on BGA, there are 7 different dinosaur cards that are either carnivores or herbivores.
The 8th dinosaur available is a mutant that can be placed in the park by combining any 3 dinosaur cards or by events or manipulation cards.
This mutant is omnivore.

Thanks! I have no idea how good mutant builds are yet but it's good to see that the game lets you score through multiple methods so it's not just a linear engine builder game.

Unfortunately I've not found it to be a terribly good build, but I've not played it a ton to look at better paths. Doing this takes a ton of Mutants, which while not difficult to get, tends to hurt you towards the mid-late game.

Mutants can be a good build, but it is blockable like any other. If you get the News Room building early mutants can be very strong. It is typically combo'd with a the buildings that give you money per hotel so you have a lot of money and can buy the best buildings as they come out. You get an early lead, but have to hold on at the end as you have less variety of Dinos in the park for end game scoring. It can also hurt because you get less visitors which is less money and VP, that's why they get the money building to compensate. Not my favorite strategy, but I will employ it if the right buildings come out early and I have a variety of DNA.

There are a couple high level players that almost exclusively use the mutant strategy, but it can be blocked if you know they are going for it. It can be quite strong if you don't know how to stop them though
