Declining to play higher ranked players in KB

Post by Brohamand »

I hesitated to make this thread because I do not want to be perceived as gloating, so let me start by saying that is the furthest thing from my intentions. (I am not in the highest echelon of players here but I’ve been consistently ranked in the top 100 for the past few years.) I play a good number of games on BGA, and more than any other, I see lower ranked KB players declining to play me. It is very frustrating to have to go through the Play Now screen many times over, oftentimes with the same player declining 3 or 4 times in a row before I just give up and play a different game instead. This rarely happens to me in the other games I play on BGA.

I am curious if this is a me problem or if others are experiencing this and would be interested in why people think KB in particular lends itself to this behavior ? I personally have lost to players with ~100 ratings on numerous occasions; there is plenty of luck in this game with the cards you draw to make it very possible to beat “better” players. Yet this doesn’t seem to be the prevailing wisdom.

Is playing in Arena where they can't decline the match an option?

I haven't noticed this happen to me (with my Elo usually in the 400s or 500s), but I only play turn-based, not real time - which means I don't watch to see if someone joins a table and then leaves, which is I think what you're saying happens to you? All I can say is that I get plenty of lower-ranked players at my tables.

I used to do this when I first started playing on BGA until I discovered the filter feature. I don't think BGA does a good job at advertising this. You could potentially use this feature to filter out people in 0-199 or 299 range since people in 300+ are unlikely to decline a challenge. You could also message the player that is joining/unjoining multiple times to let them know about the filter feature.
