Why did i lose victory points when i increased the temp ?

Post by Night_Moves_NS »

I am in a 2 player game, table #712722205 after move number # 406 or 407 I was watching victory points I converted heat into a temperature increase by one, I usually get +1 victory points but this time I lost 4 and my competion gained 5 points, I can not see why or what card would cause this. Does anyone know why >? Thanks

Thermalist award is active, you gained 1 VP for increasing temperature, but lost 5 because you had more heat than your opponent before your move, and have less now.

As a result, you lost 4 VP, and your opponent gained 5

Nice reply Cheval. Suggestion to forum mod(eratetors) (who are unpaid volunteers? 8( ): we could have an FAQ stickied post on top of the forums, this could be one of the FAQ questions and answer. This is at least the second time someone posts asking this.

In my experience people don’t read those FAQs anyway. 😂

As one of the 2 people actively maintaining the bug report forum, I can safely say that xspuipuke is correct. 99% of the bug reports are nonsense, and it's because the people reporting them already do not read the instructions.

And the list of things needed to add to an FAQ would fill pages.

If someone wants to volunteer to draw up a list, I'll see if we can post it.

Instructions for anyone who wants to make an FAQ of the most problematic errors:

Go to the bug report forum. Use the search feature and select one of the filters to "notabug". Then pick a keyword, such as "Pets" or "predators". This will return a dozen hits (just in the first 20 reports displayed), indicating this is an error people keep making.

Then, another search for "notabug" and "event" or "event tag". This will reveal infinity reports of people not understanding how event tags work.

etc.

But ultimately, it comes down to this:

1. People do not know the rules.
2. People do not watch tutorials or "how to play" videos.
3. People encounter what they think is a bug based on assumptions they have made about the rules, and instead of googling the rule, they immediately post a bug report and leave the heavy lilting to the admins of the bug report page.
4. People do not pay attention to the game log or the player panels. There are so many bug reports where a player says, "I did not receive _____", which it clearly shows in the game log AND in their player panels that they DID receive _____.

People who do all those listed things are probably likely to then also do thing number 5:

5. Fail to read the visibly posted FAQ before posting a bug report.

Replace "people" with "people who post anyway". Those who read the manual, read FAQs, search the forum, search BGG, search bug reports... those you never hear about, because they find the answer themselves :)

Hi all. Agree with all the posts up here. My suggestion for the FAQ, aside from helping people if it existed, would also let us reply to threads like this with 'please read the FAQ, your situation is answered there'.

Perhaps, but, when I see an incorrect bug report, it takes me just as much time to write one sentence explaining why it is not a bug as it would take for me to reply and point them toward an FAQ.

If not more since I would also like to provide a link, which I don't know by heart and would need to find myself first.

TBF, that's a typical and understandable question from a beginner, and they didn't post it as a bug.
