Also, I'm not "trying to enforce a rule", where do you see that ? Learn to read. I'm inviting people to blacklist unfair players with unfair moves that ruin the experience of the game. If you are happy to do such moves and play with such players, feel free to not block them. Democracy. But maybe others would like to know who do that to avoid them... Read OP (and maybe other replies, haven't read the rest of the thread), it's quite clear how annoying it is.
In other words, if we see users promoting anti-blocking, we should invite everyone to downvote them? It's not a bad idea, though we already publicly shame cheating on the forums. Users that break the rules of the site get moderated too, further assisting us in filtering out these sorts of players. I've seen posts moderated, I've seen cheaters that have had their ratings reset, etc. Indeed, reading the OP's post does show us how annoying their post is, and why the replies tore it to shreds. The BGA community has been clamping down on these attempts to promote cheating and I'm glad for it. It helps keep the community positive. :D

What a strange thread.

I don't normally block for the sake of blocking, but I sometimes do. It's a valid strategy. This is not a cooperative-play game, and there are many games that are if you prefer that style. I'm a competitive person and I do understand that Millennials and Gen Z find conflict hard to deal with (I don't mean that as an insult, just an observation that most of my Millennial and Gen-Z friends would support)

Blocking players will soon discover that they won't win the game by strictly blocking other players, particularly in 4+ player games (which are the only type I tend to play).

The object of the game is to win. Like any game, it's more fun when players aren't strictly out to be a jerk, but if it improves their chances of winning, why not use any legal move?

What a strange thread indeed!
It's hard to make such generalizations about generations, but I don't know if it's the conflict part or being afraid to be ''better'' than someone? Hence why people my age are somewhat as less competitive as possible?
Just food for thoughts

Edit: The weirdest thing about this issue and topic is that blocking isn't even a good strategy at all. I seldom block - even when I see golden opportunities - because I find that pretty inefficient and one can easily adapt to being blocked.

If it happens while trying to grab the same route, fine, but to block just to be blocking is my least liked thing about this game. I know its a part of the game. I can't stop someone from doing it, but I will never do it to someone else. When it does happen, I immediately give that a red thumbs down
how would you even enforce that rules-wise?
I know there is no way to enforce such a rule. I understand it is part of the game. I get it. It doesn't mean I have to like it or enjoy playing with people who do. It is a person decision and I won't inflict my own desires on someone else, but there is also a mechanic in BGA that allows me to say I don't want to avoid a player if I can.

Again, how do you know that when i take a route that blocks you, I'm NOT taking it because I need it for my routes?

It isn't about always just taking routes that I want/need. It's when a player takes a route that they obviously don't need and don't do anything to connect to the route throughout the rest of the game. I don't mind getting blocked when the other player ends up using the route. But it can be quite obvious sometimes when a player is taking random routes in front of you as you are building a train. It can be obvious that the route wasn't needed by the other player. If

I've also taken 5 and 6 spots just for the points because i happen to have the cards, if that "blocks" you, do i get red thumbed?

What if it "blocks" you from having a longer route than mine?

A week or so I played against someone who appeared to go out of his way to block me. It was all over the board.

By the end of the game he connected everything up and won the game. He just saw that routes he needed were possibly contested (which turned out to always be near me) and made sure he ended up with them. He wasn't being a jerk at all or even trying to block for the sake of blocking.

Anyone complaining about blocking should go play Ticket to Cry.
