Does 'base game' include expansion tiles?

Post by Coyotek4 »

I have selected 'base game', but I don't recognize some of the tiles I see when I play.

Does 'base game' simply mean in terms of rules, or is this a bug I should report?

In the options, you can activate/deactivate base game plus expansion.

I did deactivate 'base game + expansions', but I still saw expansion tiles and cards

I agree that tiles beyond the base set are included in games set to "Cards and favors base game only". Here's an image of all base tiles: https://boardgamegeek.com/image/2392988 ... ing-ludwig

There is also at least one difference if I'm remembering correctly, and I'm not sure if it's an official tile revision or a bug - Secret Lair is pictured as 2 bonus points per utility, but online it seems to be 2 bonus points per hallway.

My assumption is that the publisher wanted online games to only use the most recently updated set of tiles - on the other hand it was filed as a bug and rejected due to cost/benefit ratio without further explanation - https://boardgamearena.com/bug?id=175919

After more searching around, it looks like our version here on BGA is the Collector's Edition. BGG user goldspire very helpfully has pictures of all the differences between it and the classic base game: https://boardgamegeek.com/thread/292306 ... son-of-all

I also filed this as a bug report (BanBan said not a bug) - https://boardgamearena.com/bug?id=184473

and then they quoted this section of the rulebook - "Rules:
The first time you introduce expansions to your game, mix in all [...] standard-size Room tiles with the components from the base game. Most of these components do not require expansions, and can be used with the base game."

It would be nice to play the base game when I turn off all of the expansions.

The rules aren't collecters edition though, and I think there's supposed to be a swan meeple? Please correct me if I'm wrong because I'm desperately trying to figure out if I should ignore this swan icon 😭 The rules don't refer to it (but it's present in the pics) so I guess so
