Conceding a game

What do people actually achieve from conceding a game?

I just played a game and called 'last train' as I had 2 left, they had 15 left and conceded the game. What do they gain from doing that and why is it allowed so so late in the game!

Ends the game. They don't have to sit through the scoring, and it doesn't reveal it, if they were embarrassed about their tickets failing or something. Not that it hides it if a player wanted to check the replay.
