You can't discard a civil card from your hand?

Post by Starwarrior1128 »

So if I draw a civil card from the row, and for some reason I don't want to play it (for example I see and pick another card that does it better), I can never get rid of it ever? Because for military cards, it will ask you to discard military cards down to your hand limit for military cards. So why isn't it the same for civil cards?

Of course you can get rid of it - after 2 ages, when it becomes obsolete.

What if you choose the Monarchy government card and then see the Constitutional Monarchy card come out. If you decide you want that form of government. Will the Monarchy card in your hand ever go away? Because I don't think government cards do become obsolete.

A played government card will last the whole game, but all civil cards in your hand can become antiquated except for the Age 3 ones. A Monarchy card is from Age 1, so it will get removed from your hand when the Age 2 deck runs out.

Got it. Thanks. I still think it sucks that it takes up a spot in your hand until it gets antiquated. IMO there should be a way to discard cards from your hand.

That may feel easier and nicer, but it would change the game quite a bit.

Part of the point of it is to make the decisions of what cards to pick up more important and impactful.

And if you could just discard, it would be much easier to both deny cards to your opponent and to drastically speed up the game by drawing through cards more quickly.

The entire game flow would change pretty drastically.

I could see a technology which allows for discarding a card from your hand..."Efficiency" or "Recycling" or something like that. By itself that effect wouldn't be useful, but maybe in addition to...I don't know, maybe an additional blue cube? That's probably still not enough.

I dont know about a tech that allows discarding, but a Wonder or a Leader with a discard mechanism would be interesting.

Build a Stage II wonder and discard 1-2 cards from your hand for 1-2 cards from the card row. Now, that would be interesting.
