Do you play dumb to avoid giving too much information?

Post by Triana »

I am new to the game but I have already played a few times where both of us know that we are 2 clues away from finding the solution. So instead of asking for a clue and then letting the other player ask for the final clue, submit a response and win, we both play dumb so not to give the win to the other player. We ask for clues that give no additional information until someone gets tired and just asks for proper information (and then loses).
Does this happen to you as well? Maybe I am not good enough yet. How do you avoid this?

I really think I will do this now... I had multiple game where I gave one of the last hint to the other player... but with still too many option for the last piece to try giving an answer..
then at their turn, well they ask so they can reduce the number of possibility (and completely have only one possibility if they are lucky)... thus I losing the game...

I like this game but the 2 players game should have the real rule... meaning each player manage his own board without giving hint to the other

I've found that most of the time it doesn't matter. Typically I will ask for a clue that gets to the point where it's a 50/50 chance of victory if I guess. If I guess right, I win. If I guess wrong, my opponent should win. If I don't ask for that clue (and play dumb), then my opponent gets the clue that gives a 50/50 chance and will take a shot. So 50/50 either way. Two people of equal skill (and it's not too difficult to be at that point) should end up winning about half the time. But every so often, depending on the tile layout, the one clue I ask for ends up giving me all the information I need to win. So it's better to take a chance and just go for it. And it's more fun than playing dumb. Feel free to correct me if you disagree.

I've only played two games, so I'm not sure how often this happens, but I was given a 75% chance to win on my turn. There were two pieces that both had two possible orientations. So I could send a wave that revealed the first piece with 100% certainty and then there was a 50% chance that the wave also was reflected to the other piece revealing it too. So (0.5x1+0.5x0.5)=0.75

With lazy thinking (sending the wave from different place) that would have been a 50/50 flip, but maybe this game with current rules is a bit more clever than it first seems?

With 3 or 4 players you should obviously take that 50% chance on every opportunity.

Anyway the shared board encourages stalling with all player counts and it's a problem.
