So as I understand this, people at the top of arena only want to play the top of the arena. Thereby creating a class system where lower players cant get more points because they are always playing lower players. We are talking about pixels on a game board, where your reward for finishing high rank is...pixels on a game board. People quit at the top all the time to get pixels on a game board. I quit playing TM because I played arena for the competition, not people targeting third place so they can keep second place and not try for first even though they could have won. I see a lot of people complaining they have to play everyone instead of people "on their level". A lot of complaining about losing elo because they have to play people to win points on a video game leader board, only to fall short and complain next season. Just play for the competition. Never mind, that's too high minded a concept for people who need imaginary rewards.RoyalRook wrote: ↑25 September 2025, 01:16 It's psychological too. After a bad loss to a much lower ranked opponent, players likely to tilt. That's why people drop off like that, in order to win 20 to 30 games straight in a game like TM, you have to have absolute trust in your game especially when you ran into an invincible combo like natural earth cat, Ai plus AGT and media. You can still win it because they lower ranked will DEFINITELY give you tiny openings, you just have to trust it, but when you are on tilt, it doesn't matter how good you are, you wouldn't find it and grind it out.
So yeah sure the match making may work against you and bug out and give you a lowly ranked, but it also gave you more chances to win. +2 is much better than -16 to 29 against a highly ranked, whom more than likely will give you zero chance when they have the nuts.
The arena experience is pretty incredible when you really go for it, I think there is beauty in its match making flaws. It gives me feeling of going to an open tournament in chess, sometimes it's so stressful because I dont even want a tie.

Re: Arena season situation
If you wanna play games, just play games guys.
I could camp at 2160 arena elo and 95% no one would catch me, but wheres the fun. Now i get to try climb back and have some fun while also doing some silly things cuz playing 500 games of 2p tharsis has melted my brain

Re: Arena season situation
I did something like you for season 17. I think it's just part of learning process of how to manage an arena season. I won't able to win 18 if I didnt learn from Corbz from season 17. And I think both Leo and Potato took cue from what they leaned and won theirs. I am sure you would do things differently, when you push again for the next one.Bogeyun wrote: ↑26 September 2025, 04:12 If you wanna play games, just play games guys.

I think take on some turn based would really be beneficial for you, so you dont have to be so stressed all the time. I dont have time for real timed and would love to do more real time of course. So it’s just a matter of keeping things balanced and fun for each players.

This. Kudos to you, man, I hope you win.Bogeyun wrote: ↑26 September 2025, 04:12 If you wanna play games, just play games guys.

Re: Arena season situation
No, it should. Because elo is not some kind of competition, like Arena is. Elo is an evaluation of your skill, and every game you play "for real" (that is not set to "let's not count this game" from the beginning, i.e. as "friendly", or that is not neutralized by agreement) should count.
Re: Arena season situation
I think the starting-from-scratch and the not-playing-massively-rating-differential games could both be achieved if in Elite arena we had filters for arena rating. E.g. "I only want to play Elite league, and only within 200 points of my arena rating".
Currently we only have an Elite league filter, so someone rated 2150 in arena can be paired with someone rated 1400 (still in "elite"), and that's not really fun for either player.
Re: Arena season situation
nothing about turn based is fun for me, fine if it's fun for others.RoyalRook wrote: ↑26 September 2025, 04:59I did something like you for season 17. there's no learning process, if i wanted to win arena - I know how. I made a choice to keep playing when at peak elo and hurt my chances of winning arena cuz it's what i wanted to do with my time.
Re: Arena season situation
Bogey you can do it, keep going I want to see you get it.

Re: Arena season situation
It's not about fear of losing Elo. It's about making the games fun. When a 700-800 Elo player faces a 100-200, they win 99% of the time, and most games are complete blowouts. It's just not very interesting. A proper Elo filter would fix this.Solarman9 wrote: ↑26 September 2025, 03:59 So as I understand this, people at the top of arena only want to play the top of the arena.
